Success: 365 days in the making

Every year, people make resolutions and either break them or forget about them.  Since 2004, I've been setting goals for myself and methodically working through each one until their achieved.  This has not been an easy undertaking, but worth the effort nonetheless.  My refusal to look at each "goal" as a "resolution" has certainly helped, though they seem to still carry that definition one way or another:

res·o·lu·tion [noun]:  a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.

goal [noun]: the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.

The purpose of this community is to bring that sort of "methodical" thinking to you in an effort to achieve success with your goals and resolutions during the course of 2007.  Use this community as your sounding board, your place to keep organized, a place to brag about what you've achieved and so on.  There are some guidelines to follow (or "rules," if you will) in order to keep you on track, though.

  1. Get yourself a spiral bound notebook (I use the AmPad Project planner because the pages are very organizational and it's small enough to take with me).  Using the community to list your goals is good, but the actual act of writing things out and crossing them out when you're finished has a very gratifying result.  So, yes, this is necessary.

  2. On the first page, list what you'd like to achieve during the course of the year.

  3. On each subsequent facing page (leave the back of the page blank), list these goals (or resolutions) on the top line.  These pages will be used to:

    • list how you'd like to achieve this goal

    • keep track of how you're doing with your goal

    • list resources necessary to achieve this goal

    • journal about the trials and tribulations associated with achieving this goal

    • list people necessary to support you in achieving this goal

  4. Make this notebook "yours" by decorating the front cover (or marking it as your territory somehow), adding page markers, post-it notes or whatever else you need to keep yourself motivated and inspired.

  1. You must be a member in order to post.

  2. Post as many questions as needed in order to achieve your goal: there's no such thing as stupid question.

  3. Tag all of your entries with your username.

  4. If you're posting a resource that would be of use to other members, tag it with the word "resource" so it can be added to the memories section.

  5. Announcements (and advertisements) in direct relation to your goal or resolution can be posted, but they need to be placed under a cut.

  6. No flaming, community advertising, rude discussions (hold your rude comments for your own journal), mature content or profanity, please.

  7. Sharing your notebook pages would be helpful to others, but please put them behind a cut.

  8. Lengthy posts are excellent resources and very motivational, but please put everything longer than ten lines (or sentences) behind a cut.

  9. It is not necessary to post daily, but it would be helpful to participants if comments are made when possible.

  10. Above all, have fun
